Friday the 13th
The Carnival
"Jason's on a Joyride! It's a real scream!"
Deep in the woods on a hot July weekend, Vince Fantana's Travelling Fun House
and Carnival has visited the small town of Crystal Lake--and pitched its tents
on the old campgrounds of Camp Crystal Lake.
With little fanfare, the crew arrive and set the place up. Not one person from
town even looked out their window to see what the commotion was. Mitch Deever,
the chief mechanic, knew it was going to be a bad week, he just had no clue how
bad.
After a series of problems, the carnival was forced to go to more remote areas
like Crystal Lake to build a new reputation and more importantly, earn the
heavily-in-debt Vince Fantana some money.
As the week of setup goes by, the crew gets meaner and meaner, as if there was
something in the air. Even Mitch's rottweiler Stump got meaner, biting his
master repeatedly when they used to just play fetch. Nonetheless, by Friday
morning, the 13th, everything was a go and Vince Fantana's Travelling Fun House
and Carnival was ready for business.
Meanwhile, about 30 miles outside of Crystal Lake, in the small town of
Holloway, 17-year-old Maxi Wagner is attending summer classes and needs a break
from it all. She had had problems all of her life--her parents hated each other,
her mother was a drunk, and her father cheated on her mother. This caused Maxi
to totally flip out and go on anti-establishment kick. That is why she was in
the same grade as her 16-year-old friends Wendy Denberg and Katherine "K.C."
Carter. They were the total opposite of Maxi. They loved to have a good time,
never breaking any laws. Maxi, on the other hand, broke more laws in one day
than they have combined in their entire lives.
Well, with nothing to do in the upcoming weekend, they spot a poster for the
carnival. At first, they want nothing to do with it, so Maxi steals the poster
anyway and hangs it in her dorm room. The only reason she kept it is because it
was being held at the "haunted" campground of Crystal Lake.
The next morning, Maxi gets a call from her friend Greg Dillon, who was smitten
with her. He adored Maxi, and all she ever did was ignore him. She felt bad for
him because he lost both of his parents when he was young and had nothing to
live for. Greg asked her to go to the carnival, and Maxi refused. Heartbroken,
Greg leaves.
Back at the carnival, Mitch and Stump are playing fetch, and Stump goes digging,
ironically right in front of cabin five, and unearths the evil hockey mask of
Jason Voorhees and throws it at his master's feet. Later on, Mitch gets a call
to fix one of the many malfunctioning rides, and he needs his blowtorch. Well,
instead of taking his welding helmet, he intentionally takes Stump's prize
catch, the hockey mask, and puts it on. Within an instant, Mitch totally
changed. He now knew what he had to do.
Also at the carnival, 17-year-old Selena Tokar, daughter of Madame Xaviera, the
fortune teller of the carnival, is not enjoying her stay. Her mother got sick
and had to go to the infirmary trailer to get help. Which meant Selena would
have to work her mother's shifts for the duration.
Back in Holloway, Wendy and K.C. are telling Maxi how much they have a crush on
their 26-year-old teacher Graham Newton, who really had an infatuation for Maxi.
Then again, who didn't? Every guy wanted Maxi. Well, after the Brit Graham shows
up, and some flirting, Greg comes back and asks Maxi to the carnival again, and
she again shoots him down, causing him to leave in disgust yet again.
The carnival experienced nothing but problems, including a family terrorized on
the merry-go-round, but the difference was, Mitch Deever wasn't answering his
calls to go fix the rides. It was as if he disappeared. But, watching from the
outskirts of the carnival, was Mitch Deever, with a new personality--and a new
mask.
Maxi, whose party was canceled that she ditched Greg for, decided to go to the
mall instead and catch a flick. Well, the movie was sold out and Graham
mysteriously showed up.
In the woods, 12-year-old Bernard LeBlatt and his friend 13-year-old Nick Harris
were trying to sneak into the carnival. They knew about the Voorhees legend at
their summer camp 30 miles away, but didn't believe a word of it. Until they
were attacked that is. Nick screamed, but when he did, the man in the mask
grabbed him by the throat and raised him up a tree with his bare hands. He then
pulled out his blowtorch and burned out the back of his neck, before chasing
Bernard into the surrounding electric fence, which was turned way up to a high
frequency. There was nothing left. Bernard was fried to a crisp.
Maxi, coming out of the mall, notices Graham's car won't start, so they go talk
to him. They ultimately decide to go to the carnival, so that their weekend
won't be ruined and they can have some fun. They agreed to take Graham along
with them, much to his delight.
Back at the carnival, a distressed Greg shows up alone, and tries to enjoy
himself on the nearly deserted fairgrounds. He goes on the roller coaster, which
malfunctions, good thing, because the man in the mask hid in the last car and
slowly made his way toward him, poised and ready to kill, when the coaster
suddenly stopped, causing the prowler to climb away and head off into the woods
undetected. Greg felt it though. He had thrown up all over himself. The rude
carny gave him some ride tickets and shoved him out the exit of the coaster.
In the meantime, Maxi and company arrive at the carnival. Their first stop is
the fortune teller, which is Selena. She told Maxi her real life story and then
passed off the "death card" as nothing and led them away. Maxi was strangely
infatuated with Selena, but continued on her way.
A friendly game of truth or dare came next, and Maxi spilled her guts about her
father, and then Wendy got offended and ran off when Maxi revealed her crush on
Graham. Maxi, not seeing the mysterious prowler that was directly behind her,
suddenly spots her father and his father's mistress, Beverly. They leave right
before the prowler was able to stab her with a knife.
After chasing her father and Bev around the park with no success, Maxi again
gets angry, and this time hurts K.C.'s feelings, causing her to run off. In the
distance, Graham and Greg, who found them and got an apology, were competing to
win a stuffed animal for Maxi, who could've cared less for either one.
K.C. makes her way to the Chamber of Horrors, and the carny notices
frighteningly real screams coming from inside the chamber. He blamed Deever, who
always liked to go in there and scare the kids. At the same time, the
tilt-a-whirl malfunctioned, killing a boy by throwing him off the ride and onto
the pavement headfirst. The carny immediately ran over to help the boy, and he
didn't see K.C.'s car come out. Because K.C. was headless.
Meanwhile, the competiton for Maxi continued, with Graham winning all the
head-to-head battles and getting Maxi a stuffed Snoopy doll, which she threw
back at him. What she did like, however, was the fact that Greg said she was too
scared to go into the Tunnel of Love. Taking him up on his offer, she went into
the Tunnel of Love with Greg, while Graham (and Snoopy) went in the car behind
them.
Wendy, after spending most of the evening by herself, goes to the Side Show to
see some of the freaks. After careful deliberation, she decides visit the Fat
Lady, but it was a muscular man wearing a white mask waiting for her. He was
holding a hacksaw.
Selena, a little disturbed that her mother hasn't returned, found out that her
mother was taken to the Wessex County Medical Center and is in a coma. She
wanted to leave, but she soon discovers that every exit and entrance is locked
and everyone is trapped inside. Many people try to climb the fence to get out,
but are fried just like Bernard was.
Back inside the Tunnel of Love, Greg became the first man to touch Maxi's heart,
and they were making out, which means that they didn't see the man in the mask
slit Graham's throat one car behind them. Just as the Tunnel of Love was over,
Maxi saw her father and Bev again. She left Greg in the love car and followed
them onto the Scrambler. Greg then got his throat slit by the man in the mask.
The Scrambler got out of control, and as a result, people were being thrown into
the electrical fence and being burnt like toast, including her dad and Bev.
Screaming, she runs into the hockey-masked killer, who chases her. Maxi runs
into Vince Fantana, who slaps her for "costing him business". Then Vince met his
fate as the killer swung the strongman sledgehammer and split his head open like
a melon.
Running further, Maxi is pulled into the fortune-teller's booth by Selena, who
barricades the door and sneaks out the back. With no other option, they are
forced to go into the Chamber of Horrors, with the killer close behind...and his
rottweiler still out there in the wild. Being caged like animals with a vicious
killer on the loose, how could they possibly survive this carnival from hell?
